It’s a long way to women’s freedom
Even though we have the vote
They say, “you’ve come a long way, baby”
Well it’s that “baby” gets our goat!
We see our sisters disappearing
Our daughters not safe on the street
And we still need all those women’s shelters
Hey, buddy! Women can’t be beat!
It’s a long way to being equal
Respect for females young or old
An end to violence and harassment
An end to doing what we’re told!
We need respect for every woman
who is hurt or raped or shamed –
It makes no difference what she may be dressed like
The aggressor should be blamed!
Yes it’s a long, long way to women’s freedom
But that’s the road we need to tread:
Cherish the ones who’ve been assaulted;
And mourn the ones who’re dead.
We’re standing proud and saying loudly:
War and oppression will not cease
Until we all are seen as fully human
And our children live in peace.
